Nick West was born in Burnley, and currently lives in Fleetwood, Lancashire. He has been competing in rallies for three decades. He has mainly competed as a driver but has also co-driven on numerous occasions. He was attracted to Rallying when he went to see a stage of the RAC rally in 1979 and after 4 days of spectating was hooked. The car Nick currently drives is a Ford Fiesta ST150 and is supported by www.thekathrene.co.uk

Nick started off by competing on Road Rallies in the 1980's. He mainly contested events in the North West of England in a Ford Escort RS2000. He competed with various co-drivers throughout this period. Amongst them were Les Fragle John Stephens and Graham Hanson.

Nick then rebuilt the car into a stage rally car and moved on to stage rallies and then contested the Cumbrian Club Championship. He also competed on his first event abroad in this car, taking it to Belgium. During this period he competed with both Gary Dillon and Tim Foster.

Nick then moved up to the National scene. He built and entered a 205 Gti in the “Peugeot Challenge” and was up against ex World Champion Richard Burns amongst other big names.
An attack on the Motoring News National Tarmac Championship followed where several class awards were achieved. Gary Dillon and Tim Foster were the co-drivers.

Nick got a taste for  events away from home soil and good results on Irish and Belgian tarmac motivated him to try his hand on other events in Holland and Germany. He was able to win class awards in European Championship events during this period. In 1995 he competed on his first WRC Rally in Spain co-driven by Andy Austwick. They finished 3rd in their class.

Nick then competed on home events and bought a Group N Sierra Cosworth 4x4. The car was very successful and gave him good results. He finished a class winner in regional championships and narrowly finished runner up in the 1998 East Midlands championship. He was co driven mainly by Stephen Taylor.

After an unreliable  Escort Cosworth he bought a Mitsubishi  Evo 1V. Many Single Venue events were contested and good results achieved, including top three overall finishes and class awards in no fewer than three different regional championships. Chris O'Connor co-drove.

In 2003 Nick turned his attention to gravel, and National Forest Rallying in the BTRDA, Welsh and  the Kumho National Championship with Mark Craine co-driving. The duo won some class awards in the Welsh Forest Championship and the ANWCC. Phil Peak then took over co-driving duties on selected events.

Nick and and Phil Peak contested the first Enduro Rally to be run in the UK and acquired a Skoda Felicia and finished 4th overall.  They entered under the teamname "Key44" and Nick has kept that name ever since.

While doing occasional Forest rallies with Phil Peak and Chris Melling Nick did some co-driving for Richard Banks. The most memorable event was winning at Three Sisters in a borrowed Darrian GTR. Nick also went back to his roots driving a Suzuki Ignis Sport on some Road Rallies with Chris Melling. They won awards on all the events they contested.
